7 Questions You Should Ask Your Finance Job Applicants
Are you hiring for a finance position? Asking the right questions during interviews with your potential employees is a must if you want to get the right person for your finance job. Here are a few questions that you should ask job applicants during their interview with your hiring team.
What’s Their Driving Force?
What’s motivating them to seek a job in the finance sector? Why are they interested in a finance job in general, in the job role they are applying for in particular, and in working for your company? Will they come up with a blank, which shows that they may be applying for the job without thinking things through, or will they have a clear answer about what it is about finance that they find so fascinating? Asking what motivates them is a good way of finding out how dedicated they will be to their responsibilities and how enthusiastic they will be when working with you.
See If They Know About Your Company
Ask them questions about the job role they are applying for and about your company in general. This is a great way of finding out if they did their homework before applying for the job, or if they just applied to the job on a whim. If they don’t know what your company is about and what it does, how reliable do you think they will be? They should have a clear idea about what the company’s goals are, and how they will use their role to further those goals.
What Skills Do They Bring?
This is a question that should beasked in any job interview. What skills do they have that makes them the best pick for the job? What makes them the right choice that other job applicants don’t have? What will they add to your team? This question is important if you want to find out how confident they are in their abilities to do a satisfactory job, and how dedicated they are to making that happen.
Where Do They See Themselves In Five Years?
The answer you want for this question will depend on whether you’re looking for a temporary or long-term employee. In any case, however, this question is a good way to find out about their career plans and career goals, and how career oriented they are.
What Were Their Major Achievements?
Ask your job applicants what they consider to be their most important accomplishment (or accomplishments). Ask them what is was, how they did it, and why they did it the way they did. Find out what makes them feel accomplished and proud and how they react to certain situations.
How Do They Deal With Challenges?
What do they do when a challenge arises? What is their reaction to hurdles and obstacles that prevent them from reaching their goals? Ask them about specific challenges they faced and how they reacted to them. See if they are motivated enough to find a way to make things work even if not everything goes their way.
Basic Finance Questions
Even if you’re hiring a recent college graduate without a degree in finance for an entry-level job, they should still know basic concepts about finance. Again, this boils down to how interested they really are in the job they are applying for, your company, and finance in general. Job applicants should be able to explain basic concepts about finance, such as working capital and discounted cash flow. If they are clueless about basic finance issues, they probably aren’t the right fit for the job.
